We’re finally launching something functional here, recuperation after leaving it abandoned (and misspelled) for entirely too long. Need to Know Basics is now better enabled on the back-end and ready to serve its purpose. Thanks for your patience.
The mission here is to collect very brief, pestilence accessible bits of wisdom from people who have the deepest possible experience in broadest possible spectrum of human knowledge. You might say that Need to Know Basics is a generalist approach to specialist intellect. We’re not trying to write books or create an educational process. We’re simply trying to acknowledge people who have devoted lifetimes to the expansion of what we, story as humans, know, and through that recognition, inspire others to do the same.
To set an example, as broadly as possible, we’ve added some fake content while we begin the quest for knowledge and wisdom in 2009. These will disappear once we find something… meaningful.
For now, we’ve established some very broad categories to help organize what we hope is very specific knowledge. For now, these include: Agriculture, Arts, Astronomy, Biography, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Economics, Education, Engineering, Environment, Geography, History, Law, Linguistics, Literature, Mathematics, Media, Medicine, Music, Natural Science, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Social Science, Sociology, Sports, Technology, and Theology.
These categories will, of course, evolve over time.
Also worth noting is a direct “Contribute” form available on the site. We’d prefer contributors to be referred to us by someone that recognizes the depth of their knowledge in a field, but this is one way to make life easier on both contributors and the people that operate the site.
So, welcome to the newly re-launched and functional Need to Know Basics. Keep your sense of humor about you, and be inspired….
